A-Alikes are the future of hip-hop. I Eat, You Eat, the first full-length album from the Unsigned Hype graduates, is the best debut by a duo since Mobb Deep's The Infamous. At a time when the economy is sinking, the prison industrial complex is expanding and the music industry is shrinking into a handful of major corporations driven by sales alone, I Eat, You Eat is a fearless offering, connected to the streets and concerned with the future of the community. Influenced by Kool G Rap, Nas and dead prez and inspired by Pac, K and Ness are truly students of the game." The wordplay and poetry of G Rap was crazy," says Ness. "Nas and Pac were the last ones to be able to talk to the streets and bring a certain level of knowledge."

Ness and K linked in Tallahassee in the late nineties, and it was there that they connected with their People Army/R.B.G. comrades stic.man and M1 of dead prez and Tahir and Abu of Hedrush. Like the legendary dungeon in Rico Wade's Atlanta basement, they banged out beats, rhymes and ideas in The Attic, a spot where they'd build on everything from the future of hip-hop to the hope for Black and Brown youth. People's Army or R.B.G.z, the larger collective they would later be known as, seed was planted in those early days in Southside Tallahassee, Florida. The crew grew organically, knowing that the delicate balance between the streets and revolutionary philosophy would be one that they'd be perfecting for a lifetime. A-Alikes' first single, "What's Your Politic?" asks the streets to stay true to whatever it is they choose to represent, with principle. It's a riff on Malcolm's warning that a man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. "We're trying to be a bridge," explains K." When you read Revolutionary Suicide by Huey P, his whole thing was trying to take what he learned at Berkeley College back to the cats in the pool hall in the hood. At the same time," he clarifies, "no one wants to hear the cat that comes around, preaching, wettin the whole mood of shit."

While Chuck D. from Public Enemy opens their album, his sample is more than a prop or symbolism. He is heard imploring his audience to not talk above the people, to not even talk to them, but to talk with them. The album begins with "Born Free" making it clear from the start that theirs is no slave mentality, no new minstrel. They never judge the next man's hustle though, and on songs like "Greyhound" and "They Wanna Murder Me" they bring depth to what it is to be both the hustler and the hunted. "Share" establishes a code of ethics whether the resource be food or the block. A-Alikes know the space they occupy in rap's present, fractured landscape is truly unique. "We're here to re-define what the streets are, what revolution is, we want to re-define what it means to be gangsta, what it means to be conscience even... " says Ness. "Cats is ready to organize and get on some shit. The economy's fucked up. The white tees and army gear have created a united look on the streets. There was a time when we
emphasized our differences, like I'm from Philly, you from Cali, now we ready to talk about the ways we're the same, we not here to talk about how different we are from the next man, but how much the same we are. A lot of niggas in the game, they're whole shit is how much they don't give a fuck, our thing is, We give a fuck."

This will be a chance for people to get together and listen to the album and ask me any questions they may have about the songs; ask other people who have the album how they feel about it; and have a relaxed time. I don't always get to talk to everyone at my live shows because there are so many people to get around to but I will get to everyone on the 10th. I'll be there from about 6pm until the place closes at around 4am. So if you wanna come out early that's cool too.
I know you have the album already, so what! Come out and meet some other people who don't have it. Shyt, bring a friend who you think might want to hear it. I will be giving away autographed pictures. Hey. you never know there just might be an impromptu performance. You know how those things go with me. you never know what you might miss. So be there. There's gonna be a raffle too so you don't wanna miss out.

Also: Butt Naked Aliens wrestling in endoplasmic goo on the lower level. Wrestle naked at your own risk! Bring out your Alien Cards to get drink discounts and to avoid abductions. $6 Red Devils from 8-9 pm and other drink specials all night.

After two years in the making, Lou Auguste and Alyssa Natches proudly present the premiere of their documentary OPEN AIR. They've tracked down the top street artists in the nation including Faile, ESPO, Tiki Jay One, Skewville, Dan Witz and Mike De Feo. OPEN AIR showcases many of these artist's doing live work both on the street and in their studio and provides insight into the culture of street art with indepth interviews and commentaries. Plus the whole movie is cut to a brand new hip hop soundtrack with beats by DJ OJA and Todo the
Shellfish. A can't miss for anyone who has seen the work up on the streets and always wanted to know who is behind it. Special appearences by some of the artists featured in the documentary.

"The Thoughtful EP"

Today is the day we finally admit to ourselves that EVERYONE owns a microphone and believes they are the next big thing to hit a stage. Hip Hop connoisseurs today we admit to ourselves that there are many, many...MANY shelves full of dramatic, "emo" stemmed, whiney filled albums. Hip Hop fans Today is the day we admit to ourselves that there is a lot of aspects of the genre that has been 'overly cooked' but not very 'well done' HOWEVER...today...I ease your weariness and introduce you to artists that are still doing it RAW. Straight from the catacombs of the boogie down comes Thinker- a newbie-veteran producer that sets atmospheres vast with originality and chilled vigor.

Thinker brings to us 'The Thoughtful EP' which is aptly titled. An eclectic canyon of asphalt cracking love that seems to never get old. Just when i thought everyone was going cotton soft came an EP hard off with teeth grinding grime outlined in a jazzy cool. From when 'Garden of Eden' chimes in almost unexpectedly with a in your face delivery from Nixx-P, Quest and Skallah to each track following- Thinker never fails to surprise you. The first 3 tracks [my personal favorites] paint a picture of midnight, smoke screened cyphers laced with playback verses from each emcee [my favorites: Tzo, Nixx P]- city classics unheard but so vital and missed in memories of the golden age of hip hop. Especially track 3- "Room" - which ended it all for me. This track is an INSTANT classic and is worth the 7 dollars in its very own. A 9 emcee session catapulted by an oddly addictive sweeping beat from the deep realm of dope. Words dont describe what the track has the power to do to you- let your head do the talking and your eyes do the popping. This track not available for spins is a travesty in its own.

After Room destroys your train of thought- Thinker flips the script and lets you rest your innards with "Nature" [a quasi-jazz infected hypnotists strip tease],"Change" [God's Chocolates spoken beauty over a interlude through time], "Wee Hours" [a coffee house turned funk jungle cypher session feauturing Miles ghost and underrated emcees], and "Sweet Tooth" [a sugary reminsecent journey through past Hendrix summers featuring Skallah]. Each track following the same script of creativity and an ease of worry that good hip hop still exists. And it will repeat in your soundsystem again.

Thinker, a producer born from musical skin, really surprised me with his ability to find new sounds that work well together. Versatility for Thinker and his whole crew is almost too easy for each- but as a listener you will appreciate it after one listen. This EP gives you a variety of listening that you can only recieve with a whole visor holder of cds. Thinker- along with Tzo, Nixx P, Skallah, Conscious, Quest, L Starr, Esco, Whyld, Ignite, and God's Chocolate has pulled off an 11 track gem that now can easily be considered as one of my favorites thus far in 2005.
